Jumping Caterpillar Controls

Being a kids game, the control scheme of Jumping Caterpillar is anything BUT complicated. Make your caterpillar jump with the L, K, J, F, D, S, and A keys on your keyboard. You need to hit the letter keys that correspond to the letters that are shown on the screen to bag MORE bonus points. That's about it! That's about everything you need to keep in mind as far as controls go. Let's check out this caterpillar-oriented game.

Jumping Caterpillar Walkthrough

I'm not someone to deny that it took me quite some time to figure out what was going on in Jumping Caterpillar. This is not your average typing / kids game. Other online and flash-based typing games help you build up speed. HOWEVER, in Jumping Caterpillar, you need to be familiar with the home row keys. That said, this game does a good job of helping you build typing speed while using proper typing techniques. As simple as that sounds, it's not really easy... especially if you are someone who got used to typing speedily BUT with wrong finger positioning and typing techniques.

'OK, so it's a typing game... BUT what does the caterpillar have to do with it?' you perhaps asked. In Jumping Caterpillar, you need to guide... well, the caterpillar from one side of the screen to the other. The game throws obstacles at you along the way and you need to jump over it if you are dreaming of making it on the other side. The letter or letters you use to make the caterpillar jump (I know... a hopping caterpillar really sounds and looks odd) depends on the level you are in. When you start off the game, you will use the simple I letter key. On the next level, the K letter key is added to the mix. Press the I letter key to make the caterpillar's head jump and press K for the rest of the body to do the same. As you progress, you will add letters in every level along the home row. In the next level in this typing / kids game, it will be J, then K, and so on until you reach the rear of your caterpillar that requires you to press the A letter key to jump.

YES, you need to hit the letters in the RIGHT sequence so that your pet doesn't crash. Otherwise, you will lose one of your three lives. BUT don't worry, it's not the end of the world when your caterpillar crashes. You see, when you lose a life, you can collect bonuses to get your lost life back. And get this: you will find bonuses scattered throughout the game. The bonuses are letters that you see on top of your game screen. What you need to do to grab them is to press the letter on your keyboard that corresponds to the one on top of the game screen. It may sound easy BUT trust me, it isn't... especially if you are NOT used to using home row keys. If there's only one tip I could give you to do well in this typing / kids game (and, unfortunately, I only have a tip under my sleeve), that is to put your fingers on the home row keys and keep them there. Summing things up, Jumping Caterpillar is a typing / kids game that provides great practice for someone who already knows how to type while providing enough challenge for those who are looking for an unconventional and difficult typing game.
